Hello, All -
I'm trying (very hard) to test-drive the demo of FumeFX! I really like what I've seen so far but one thing is driving me crazy. Every couple of minutes the FumeFX parameters keep returning to their default settings! I'm in the middle of one of the tutorials, I switch to another panel and "hey presto" all the settings are reset. Even the flame colour switches back to white!
I don't know if this is a deliberate "feature" to stop people taking advantage of the demo but it's starting to leave a nasty taste in my moth.
Incidentally, I have read the thread elsewhere which mentions similar behaviour after saving a scene. In my case the parameters are reset (at regular intervals) whether I save or not.
:?
AJ
PS. I'm running the demo in Max 9 on a Windows Vista (32bit) machine.

Greetings everyone.
I have two questions for the community today, hoping you can answer one of them or both. Non disclosure agreements obliged me to stay silent on which film i am working on, i will "translate" my problem in simple situation.
Ok ,first question. I have a simple emitter circling around a long and narrow cylinder. The emitter start at the base , emitting smoke as he move up in the Y axis. Simple stuff, ya know! But in the display of max and also in my render, the smoke never seem to know when she is behind on in front of the cylinder??? She always seem to "think" that she is in front, always. A bit hard to matte it out to see that she is behind the cylinder. I also had this same problem with fire too...
Anyone had this problem in display and in render ?
Ok, second question. I have worked some time with maya Fluid and they are very clear about the fact that your voxel need to stay “squarish” in all situation, if not, you could see some strange result in render.
My question is two folds. Is it necessary to have integer value in my width, length and height value? Is it also necessary to have equal and squarish value in both of these three values? Ya know, if my height is 17 , length is 24 and height is 16, mathematicly I can’t have square voxel, right?
I hope my question are clear and you can shed some light?
Thanks.
Simon

| FumeFX UI Window Size Problem |

Hello,
I am using 3DS MAX 2008 64 Bit & Fume FX 1.0a on a Windows Vista Ultimate Quad Core Dell Precision Computer.
I am having a problem with FumeFX’ UI.
When I “Open FumeFX UI”, the “FumeFX UI” window looks as it does on the left in the below attached image.
If I try to resize it, it snaps to look as it does on the right of the below attached image
The window is not resizable.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a solution or a fix?
Thanks,
Mike Bazzell

Hello,
I am using 3DS MAX 2008 64 Bit & AfterBurn v32c on a Windows Vista Ultimate Quad Core Dell Precision Computer.
When I load the AB-tut8.max Tutorial file or when I click “OK” and add the AfterBurn Glow Video Post effect, 3DS MAX 2008 crashes.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a solution or a fix?
Thanks,
Mike Bazzell

Hello
I was heard that you should make some new video tutorials about FumeFX, are they available yet or is it only the ones that ship with the plugin that are?

Hi all,
I'm running an intense set of Smoke sims on a XP64, Max9-64 workstation. The render memory footprint of the sims is high (5.5 GB), but no where near the record, or the limitations of the box I'm rendering on. Overall the sims are working fine.
However, for a couple of the frames, it appears one of the shadows is not getting calculated. Portions of one sim get lit for a frame, and then go back to being in shadow on the next frame. The shadows are being cast by another fume box, roughly in the same space.
I'm attempting to track down how to fix this. I've tried lowering the illumination Map's undersampling threshold, but with no results. What other tips/tricks should I be trying here?
Here's an example of what I'm talking about.
