Just wondering if you can illuminated the fumefx fire in Brazil...any one have any examples and if you get not jittery results?
Thanks

Vortex madness….?
Hi
I’m trying to make smoke in a room get sucked down a vent. I put a vortex at the entrance of the vent. It works great for about 50 frames and then everything gets really fast and turbulent. What is going on? No amount of velocity damping will stop it?
If this is not the correct approach could someone suggest another.
thanks

Point Installer To 2009 Installation

Since AB 4 is installed in the Max 2008 folder how do I also install it into the 2009 folder?
Do I have to uninstall it from 2008, then point it to 2009?
The modify option in the installer doesn't give the option to also install to another folder.

I have some strange things going on here - I'm hoping somebody can shed some light on this.
basically i set off a couple of big simulations off overnight - long sims with small spacing settings - big slow sims!!
when i came in the the morning deadline had reset the task to begin again - (an 8 hour time out that i wasn't aware of - now fixed)
but the issue is - the new sim which is simming and the original sim that got stopped don't match.
so say my original sim got to F200 and my new sim (going overe the top of the fxd files) is only up to F156 - then there is a big change between F155 and F156 when I render.
I was under the impression that you could sim the same file ahundred times and get the same result (so long as you don't change any settings of course!!)
Another strangeness is - another sim that was also huge didn't display this behaviour - i.e. the new resimmed frames matched the older simmed frames perfectly - as i would expect.
(we also have done some tests on smaller scenes just to try and work out the issue - and we have the same results - it seems random, sometimes the sim is the same and sometimes not.)
anybody got any ideas what may be going on here?
p.s thanks to anybody for reading all of this!

Fbm Fractal and animated phase = no render

Using AB 4.0a here under Max 2008 32bit. When using Fbm Fractal noise with the Phase low and high set to unequal values the effect renders blank (black rgb, no alpha). This only seems to happen with Fbm fractal noise, and affects raymarcher and octane shaders. Even if you disable the AFC curve it won't render if the two numbers are different. For example if Low is 0.0 and High is 0.1 it won't render. If they are both 0.0 OR 0.1 it renders fine. If Low is 1.0 and High is 0.9 it won't....see the pattern?
Thanks,
Mitch

Hi Guys,
Just a quick basic question, I've been looking all over and I can't seem to get around understanding this, so I know this is a fumefx forum but please hold the flames(ok bad joke)
I've been just going through the manual etc, what I am trying to understand is having fumefx self-illuminate. I have seen this done. eg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWehorg2rVw
Im having trouble understanding how to apply it to my simulation, so I was wondering if someone could clarify.
My understanding is you create a light eg I create an omni, add it in Vray, and Fumefx takes that light and applies it through the fumefx source, EG say a torch flame, if this is so I don't seem to be having much luck. Do I have to add G.I via Vray or ??
Again, any help or even a push in the right direction would be appreciated, I apologise for such a basic question in advance but I wouldn't post unless I was absoulutely stuck.
Thanks
Shan

Is there any way to have the value of adaptive grid size?

Is there any way to have the value(width, length, height) of adaptive box size on specific frame(because everyframe, the adaptive box changes its size) (NOT ORIGINAL FumeFX box size) in maxscript?
Under QUICK REFERENCE of maxscript in the fumefx says -
Global Variables
----------------
int nx, ny, nz - dimensions of the adaptive area (in voxels)
It might work in the maxscript of fumefx, but its not going to work in original maxscript because I tried with Maxscript Listener.
ffbox = $FumeFX01
$FumeFX:FumeFX01 @ [0.000000,0.000000,0.000000]
ffbox.nx
-- Unknown property: "nx" in $FumeFX:FumeFX01 @ [0.000000,0.000000,0.000000]
