| Dynamics Tutorial - manual animation |

In the Dynamics tutorial, it says that an object can be manually animated through the water and create wakes when dynamics is unselected. This would be useful in a scene I am working on, but I can't get it to work. With dynamics unselected, no wake/waves are calculated; with it on, you can't manually animate.
Is manual animation without dynamics possible as the tut says? If so, any clue what I might be doing wrong?

| A Puzzling Max Plug-In Net-Render Error |
|

I have AfterBurn and FumeFX & Max2008 installed on my Vista Computer. They are the only Max plug-ins that I have installed at this time.
If I create and save a MAX scene and don’t use any AfterBurn or FumeFX elements in that scene, and then open that that scene on a different Max2008/Vista based machine and start a net render, I get errors saying that renders couldn’t be carried out on some machines on our farm due to a “Plug-in Error”. The render works on some other of the machines on our farm even though no other machine but mine has Afterburn or FumeFX installed.
We get these errors only using scenes generated on my machine and the key is that I wasn’t using either plug-in in the scene, so why would we get these errors at all when net rendering on a different machine?
Thanks,
Mike Bazzell

| FumeFX SL on a renderfarm |
|

Ok this is what I do:
- set the simulation (when I sim it locally it renders fine through BB so all paths are ok)
- check the BB mode switch
- network rendering a single frame on a single slave
- error on that slave "FumeFx license does not exist"
Now our renderfarm:
- 8 nodes and a license server (192.168.1.9)
- DCPflics installed on license server and running
- it is probably properly setup since I managed to authorize 4 SL licenses on it from a workstation through network
- sidenote: the only licenses on license server in DCPflics are these 4 SLs - all other plugins are authorized localy on each workstation
- anyway, DCPflics on the license server shows 4 SL licenses - so everything is cool here.
- on the render slave DCPFlics is installed (should it also be running?)
- slave's dcpflics.ini:
[Port]
4002
[Servers]
192.168.1.9
[Guests]
everyone
Now, I copied dcpflics.lic from a workstation to the license serwer, the license serwer's dcp tools showed licences for DS, AB and Fume.
When I run Max on the render node and choose FumeFX it gives me a dcpflics error with the ip 192.168.1.9 saying that the license has to be reauthorized - which is logical and the sytem works.
I returned dcpflics.lic files as they should be.
What else can I try?
- I think I sent the job to BB properly
- DCP on the render node and the license serwer seem to be working fine and talking to eachother
Any ideas?

Hello FumeFX users, I have used fumefx a bit but am having a bit
of a problem having a fire turn on at a set frame then turn off at a
set frame. It would be nice to then have it smolder after the flame goes out.
Any tricks?

It would be very nice if FFX could, not simulate between frames, but just calculate the voxels density, color whatever it needs to render between two frames.
