  AfterBurn and FumeFX bundle !
Posted by: sitnisati - 08-26-2010, 07:36 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (1)

Zagreb, August 26th, 2010.

Sitni Sati d.o.o. is pleased to announce that AfterBurn users are eligible to purchase FumeFX 2 at a tremendous savings until the end of 2010. FumeFX 2 is the current standard for physically based smoke, fire and explosions within 3ds Max and 3ds Max Design. It retails for $845.00 US, but AfterBurn users can purchase FumeFX 2 until the end of December for only $495.00 US! This also means that we have a limited time offer for AfterBurn and FumeFX bundle for $1040 US.

Great thing about having AfterBurn, FumeFX, ScatterVL Pro and even standard 3ds max Fog in the same scene is that they will perfectly blend even with the Scanline renderer. With our tools, you don't need to buy special renderer licenses in order to be able to properly render those effects.
FumeFX 2 also comes with advanced tools for adding wavelet turbulence details to your simulations (a huge production timesaver) as well as sophisticated retiming tools for instantly tweaking the speed of your effects. It also comes with two simulation licenses (a $390 value) so you can offload your simulations to other network machines, leaving you free to productive while FumeFX calculates its results.

This offer means you can buy the same tools used by Blur, ILM, Encore Hollywood and many other high-end studios to make stunning visual effects at nearly a 50% discount just because you are an AfterBurn user.

Take advantage of this opportunity while it lasts and get your copy of FumeFX 2 now !

Helper gizmo casts AO on matteshadow material in Mental Ray
Posted by: Steve Green - 08-21-2010, 10:27 AM - Forum: FumeFX & NodeWorks [max] - Replies (4)

Hi,

I've noticed that the FFX helper casts a shadow shaped like the gizmo on matte shadow materials in mental ray when ambient occlusion is set.

Is there any way to stop this happening? I've tried turning off cast shadows for the helper itself, but it still does it.

Thanks,

Steve

AB, Volume Lights and occlusion of atmospheric effects
Posted by: aldred2 - 08-17-2010, 04:03 PM - Forum: AfterBurn - Replies (5)

Say I have a bunch of particles in a disk-like distribution with Afterburn applied for a cloudy effect. Like a spiral galaxy. I need a light area in the centre of the galaxy, so I create a Volume Light. The trouble is, because of the way atmospherics are set up, I have to choose between having the Volume Light in front of Afterburn or behind it. I can't have it 'in the middle' of the Afterburn volumetrics.

So for example, if I have it in front of Afterburn and look from the side of the disk, the cloudy effect doesn't occlude the Volume Light. On the other hand, if I have it behind Afterburn, the Volume Light is occluded by the Afterburn cloudy effect behind it, which also isn't what would happen in real life.

I can't think of any way round this. I can't even think of a decent way to composite the two.
Does anybody have any ideas? Or any alternatives to using a Volume Light?

Thanks
Mark

  Fix just one bug
Posted by: Steve Green - 08-14-2010, 02:12 PM - Forum: DreamScape - Replies (4)

Hi,

if Afterworks could fix just one bug (or feature if you like), it would be the overlapping that occurs when using choppiness.

As I understand it, the choppiness is done to the actual mesh rather than displaced sideways and tiled, so if you look at a choppy mesh from the top, it doesn't have straight edges, and this causes artifacts/glitches where the mesh tiles.

The workaround is to render off a height map, tile it yourself and use that as a displacement map, but it would be so nice if this could be fixed in DS itself.

Thanks,

Steve

Co-Development Relationship With Cebas
cebas VISUAL TECHNOLOGY Inc. and Sitni Sati d.o.o. Announce a Long Term Co-Development Relationship

Zagreb, Croatia, August 10th 2010

A unique agreement between cebas and Sitni Sati was formed in order to build next generation effects tools and rendering solutions for their customers. Both companies are well established software developers, creating advanced solutions for the 3D animation and visualization market. Renowned for delivering state of the art technology solutions for their customers, this close co-development agreement emphasizes their intention to deliver even better performance and functionality by using both product lines together.

Sitni Sati has contributed several thinkingParticles’ software components based on thinkingParticles’ fully procedural animation and effects approach. There is no other fluid effects solution available in the market that offers such tight integration and procedural control for fluid effects as offered by thinkingParticles and FumeFX.

Kresimir Tkalcec, CEO of Sitni Sati says:

"We have great collaboration with cebas Visual Technology. Direct connection with their software engineers makes it possible to readily obtain in-depth finalRender and thinkingParticles API information, as well as first line support, when it comes to problem solving. In the months to come, we will be working on increasing FumeFX’s global illumination speed as well as direct motion blur support for finalRender. FumeFX fluid dynamics combined with thinkingParticles has already resulted in outstanding visual effects for films like “2012,” “Alice In Wonderland”, Red Cliff” and many other titles."

This latest co-development between both companies concentrates on enhancing the interaction between their new upcoming releases of finalRender R3.5 and FumeFX 2.1, a powerful fluid dynamics engine, designed for simulating and rendering photo-realistic fire, smoke, explosions and other gaseous phenomena. Thanks to this mutual cooperation in developing software, users are able to experience massive enhancements in image quality and rendering speed when using FumeFX and finalRender R3.5 together, in a production environment. A blazing speed improvement of 600% is achievable by using finalRender R3.5 and FumeFX 2.1 with Global Illlumination lighting effects.

Edwin Braun, CEO cebas VISUAL TECHNOLOGY Inc. remarks:

“I’m thrilled we are able to announce this great new relationship and agreement between Sitni Sati and cebas VISUAL TECHNOLOGY; these are exciting times for both of our customers and companies! At last, we are able to enhance the atmospheric rendering effects by a magnitude within 3ds Max, an area that has been ignored for a long time by the development team of Autodesk. Communicating directly with the development team at Sitni Sati exchanging new programming hooks and fixes in a matter of minutes, is just great and motivates us to invent even more amazing new features. FumeFX is the fluid effects standard on 3ds Max and we are happy to be the Company offering the best performing rendering solution for both products”

Hi, i've just noticed that the maximum threads you can use for FumeFX is 16CPUs.
(i could not set more than 16 in preference...)

Is there any way to increase the amount of thread??

Im using FumeFX1.2e..and I'm afraid that we could not upgrade to 2.0 due to Krakatoa and TP is not supported 2.0 yet....lol

Cheers!!

2011 and still no Create Channels
Posted by: aldred2 - 07-27-2010, 03:00 PM - Forum: AfterBurn - Replies (8)

Well, I'm onto 2011 now and I'm still unable to use 'Create Channels' for glow and the like. It's been shot since at least 2009 for me. The render hangs on 'Preparing Plugins' and I have to force max shut.

I'm on Windows7 x64 now. So that's three versions of max and two OSs and no luck. The only thing I can think of that may be different from anyone else is that I use the English version of max on a Japanese OS.

I've also had a problem with Dreamscape clouds for several versions. If I add a layer of clouds, it looks like it's being added using 'additive' to the other layer, so the overlapping clouds are pure white. Dreamscape has been unusable for me since this started happening. I can't imagine it happens across the board otherwise the forum would be full of it.

Could the problems be related?

Thanks
Mark
